Rosa Parks Bus Detroit Depot

This tensegrity structure has the robust beauty and delicate curves of a lily or an orchid.

The the free-standing piers of the concrete anchors twist in a post-cubist fashion like Italian futurist sculptures. Other groupings of concrete bases are linked together with back rests transforming the structural necessity into passenger amenity.

There is a striking open, processional stair to a mezzanine in the interior of the main building.

The tensegrity tent structures are arrayed in a regular grid with stabilizing struts on the outside ends.

The building lobby is open to the public and cafes are open during the week.

Detroit Skyline from Mies' Residential Tower

This is the view looking out the window of Mies van der Rohe's high rise residential tower in Detroit.

The buildings seem like they no longer reflect the same settlement patterns that originally put them there.

So what has slowed the city's growth since the 1930s? The plus side is that there are many fine Art Deco buildings still in the city, like the Guardian Building.
